Weather Baloon Project

I am looking to launch a weather balloon in Australia. I will use a R Pi.

My plan is to use a P Pi with GPS module, and a Telstra USB dongle to send data back. So that Telstra dongle will go in the USB port.

Here is my shopping list. Am I missing anything please:

I think I need a Battery pack of some kind, GPS Antenna and 2 x Temperature sensor (one in the payload and one external). Can anyone recommend a adafruit part for these? And while I am there, are there any other sensors that would be fun just to play with that would be compatible?

What about Gyro module for the Pi, so I can log G Force.

And can any one see any issues?

The Adafruit Ultimate GPS module is a good choice. One customer achieved 34046 meters ( 111,757 feet ) with one not long ago. https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main ... timate+gps
We have a variety of temperature sensors. The BMP085 might be a good one because it reports barometric pressure also. https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main ... emperature

But an accelerometer would be the sensor you would want for logging G-force: https://www.adafruit.com/products/163

Before you commit to a battery pack, get everything hooked up and measure the current draw. Once you know the current draw, you will be able to select a pack with the appropriate capacity for your expected flight-time (plus some safety factor of course).

All the sensors mentioned will work with 3.3v logic on the Pi. The starter pack has a solderless breadboard for prototyping, you will want to solder the circuitry to something more robust like a perma-proto or a Pi-Plate for actual flight.

There are gyro breakout modules from Pololu and SparkFun. I do not have any experience with them.
We do ship to Australia. We also have distributors in New Zealand and Singapore.
