HDMI to VGA Video Adapter - Resolution switching

Post by manis404 »

Hi all,

I wanted to know how does the adapter know the native resolution of the VGA monitor attached to it?

For example, if my raspi is sending 1080p via HDMI, and a 1440x900 LCD monitor is attached to the VGA port of the adapter, how does the adapter know which resolution to send to the VGA monitor?

Does the adapter downscale the 1080p video from the pi? Or should the pi be manually set to send at the resolution of the VGA monitor(1440x900)?

(additionally, if i connect my BANNED through the adapter, will it work?)

Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me!

we're actually not sure because we havent connected it to a 'larger' display than 1080p but from what we can tell it will stretch the display out and there will be black bars on the side. if you happen to try it out and it doesnt work, we can refund your item purchase :)
