Raspberry PI LED Sign HELP!

by winterpeg on Sat Feb 23, 2013 1:43 pm

Hello..
I have a large number of Ada fruit RGB square LED strings.. I would like like 2 build a Addressable sign matrix 4x8 foot and 4x16.. I also hope 2 use Raspberry PI and PMW16 boars 2 control sign (text and animation)
Have a bench top setup as per projects posted... however have hit a wall with what can do for software 2 address this type of array..

i guess you're talking about either the square pixels or the really big square pixels and one of the i2c servo controllers. not sure how the pwm controller would help with the pixels.

on the other hand you may be referring to the rgb piranha leds. you could do it, but i2c is kind of slow, so it would depend a lot on how dynamic you wanted the display to be. you might have some latency issues with the pi anyway.

a few more clues might be helpful.
