defective goods (broken SD card socket)

Post by tomcox »

There is one thing I can't find on your otherwise outstanding website: What to do if I receive defective goods.

I have Raspberry Pi Model B (PID 998, SID PI.5) bought on invoie no. 261093 on April 1.

I first powered it today. Got a steady red PWR LED, but no other LED activity.

My diagnosis: The SD Card socket is missing a flange on one side, needed to hold the SD Card up against the contacts in the socket. If the card is manually held up against the contacts, the board seems to perform as it should.

Cards are now out of stock. I have asked to be notified when they are again available, so I can order one. In the meantime, should I return the defective board?

I don't mind buying a replacement, but I want you to know about the problem, because I doubt if this is the only board that has it.

Hi, As it says [urlhttp://adafruit.com/support]here[/url], the forums are the appropriate place for all support questions. Since this relates to a Raspberry Pi, I've moved the topic to the Pi forum.

Just to confirm your diagnosis, please post a photo showing the defective socket. If that checks out, we can arrange for a replacement. As you know, these boards are in extremely short supply due to demand and we do not have a firm date for re-stocking. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm not asking you to replace it. There is no way to know whether the damage took place at the factory, in transit, or in my hands.

I can't take a photo to show the damage: it is barely visible with a jeweler's loupe.

I think that the SD socket is pretty flimsy, but that is not under your control.

Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback. We can forward this to the Raspberry Pi folks. There is also a forum at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/ If this is a common problem, there will probably be some posts about it there as well.
