Defected Raspberry Pi

Post by amalsaie »

I have recently bought Getting started with Raspberry Pi kit. However, when I connected it no output show on the screen and it doesn't seem to boot the system. Only the red LED power indicator goes on, but no video output. Which make me belief it is defected.

Make sure that the SD card is properly seated in the SD card holder. If it still doesn't boot, try loading the system on a different SD card.

What version of the OS do you have on the SD card?

A few things to check:
  • What is the voltage between TP1 and TP2?
Do you see anything at all on the green led (brief flash, dim glow, etc) when attempting to boot?
Try booting with all cables other than the USB disconnected.
Also, check that your SD card is compatible: http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards

Did you load the operating system onto the SD card? The card does not come with any software pre-loaded.
Please refer to our tutorial for loading the occidentalis 0.2 distribution:

Did you just get this rspberry Pi? if it is a new baord then the chipset may be a hynix chipset(you can look for this on the chip in the middle of the board). In any case mine was a hynix chipset and the older versions of weezy or even occidentalis 0.2 did not work on it. I downloaded the latest versions from raspberrypi.org and the system booted up fine. So my question to adafruit is when will they update occidentalis? I think occidentalis 0.2 is from Aug 2012 and it works great on the older boards with the samsung chip but not the new ones... at least that is what I have experianced and heard.

Hi there,
I found out that the SD card was not loaded with os, thus when I burn the image it work and boot normaly. However, another problem occurs, the HDMI is not functioning. I didn't get any signal even though the cable I used was working probably and it is tested.
Regards
Ahmed

Please check out this troubleshooting page for HDMI problems:

The "safe mode" step also works for occidentalis 0.2.
