Mouse+keyboard not working in Occidentalis v0.2

Post by andersekbom »

Have placed Occidentalis v0.2 on 4GB Sandisk SD card.

During boot, my USB mouse and keyboard stops working as soon as the desktop is loaded. The mouse light is on, but no pointer movement or response to button clicks. The keyboard seems to hang, I tried pressing Num Lock repeatedly during boot sequence and the light stayed on when the desktop loaded.

Mouse and keyboard works fine using a Raspbian SD-card on the same Pi, and are plugged in directly to the Pi.

I have replaced files both from Wheezy and Hexxeh distributions according to http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 26&t=43484 but still no luck.

Any suggestions?

Edit: It's a Hynix-model, says 2011.12 on the board. A sticker on back reads E1313RS2V13B1.0

It looks like you have two different issues going, so let's nail down the details separately.

First, it sounds like you're using the workaround to get Occidentalis working on a Hynix-era RasPi by copying the boot files from a later Raspbian distro. If you can get it to boot far enough to see a desktop, you've done it right and that shouldn't have any further connection to the USB issues.

Next, it sounds like you may have a power or IO configuration issue with the USB devices. For now, try connecting them to a powered USB hub and see if that solves the problem. Either way, we'll have a better idea of where to look for further solutions.

Hi, and thanks for your reply!

Well, this is odd (or maybe not):
I SSH'd into the Pi and did apt-get update/upgrade just to be on the safe side, and at some point during the upgrade process the mouse and keyboard started working. No change in hardware setup, same mouse/keyboard, same connections (no powered USB hub as I couldn't find it just then ;)

I wasn't paying enough attention to the upgrade to see exactly where it started working, but now it's up and running even after reboots and such.

Anyways, onwards to more hacking! And thanks again!

Occ 2 is /really/ old at this point, we have v3 coming out soon and (shh!) its basically a kernel upgrade path intead of an image so you can re-install this on top of your current system and that will re-enable our kernel add-ons such as the PWM driver
