With all the travails that I have read here about getting the Wireless Access Point to work, I thought I'd share my success story.
First off, I'm not an expert of linux-fu by any stretch of the imagination, so please don't ask me if XYZZY will work, or why the isc-dhcp-whatever doesn't work.
I bought a LB-Link dongle....the one with the big antenna just like was pictured in the adafruit ads. This one: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1030 I followed the instructions to the letter. it *almost* worked. It would connect, and then the link would drop out, associated, then disassociated. I went through what I might have done wrong, gave up, re-wrote the SD boot card with a new install of wheezy, and tried a different set of instructions (there are no less than 5 sets of instructions for setting up an access point to be found out in webland, and I didn't try real hard to find more). That definitely didn't work, but in the process of running through them, I went over to the realtek site, downloaded the drivers, drilled down to the appropriate sub-sub-sub directory, and crossing my fingers, typed in 'make'. After a while, it actually compiled. I now had a brandy new hostapd, which I installed, and I reconfigured the hostapd.conf according to the instructions on the adafruit site (using the hostapd.conf I found in the driver tarball)....I followed those directions (on the adafruit site) exactly EXCEPT for downloading the hostapd install....instead I used the one I compiled. I think it may help to use the pi to surf to the adafruit site and swipe and paste the appropriate incantations...it's terribly easy to make a typo.
And after all that, lo and behold, it worked. I can connect with my PC and my iphone.....
To be honest, I cannot say for sure that I didn't do something wrong the first time I tried to install it, or that it is necessary to go to the trouble of recompiling the hostapd.
But I thought it might be useful to share that it actually does work.....

Re: RaspberryPi Wireless Access Point Success!
Congratulations.. you've just had your first success with making Linux do what you wanted.
I'm glad to hear you got it working. Have fun playing with the RasPi now that it's willing to talk to the rest of the world.
