HDMI 4 Pi Not Working

Post by verbranden »

I edited my Pi's config.txt file to reflect the suggestions in the in the tutorial's tab (http://www.adafruit.com/products/1033#Learn), but no matter what I do, the display still only shows a black screen. I can toggle inputs types using the Switch button, but none of the other buttons, menu + or -, seem to have any effect. I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing in setting this display up to work with my Pi, or if my unit is simply defective.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Have you tried it with both HDMI and with the NTSC composite output?

No, HDMI only, as I bought the display specifically for the HDMI capabilities.

If you've got an RCA cable, it's worth a try. If the display works, then it may be some issue with the Pi HDMI port.

The HDMI output on the Pi works with two other monitors that I have at home, and my HDTV. I do not own an RCA cable.

I have one of those on my workbench, and it handles both HDMI and NTSC without any problem for me.

You might need to take the 'config_hdmi_boost' value up a bit though. The default setting is a bit weak.. good enough for most full-scale TVs and displays, but low enough to reduce power consumption in the RasPi.

As a cross-check, try hooking the display to some other HDMI source and see if it displays that.

I tried connecting my BANNED 3 or 4, can't specifically remember which at the moment, to the HDMI 4 Pi, and didn't get anything to display either.

The config_hdmi_boost line is commented out in the config.txt provided by the tutorial, but I will uncomment it and tweak the value to see if that helps.

If the display doesn't work with another HDMI source, we have a strong hint of a problem with the display.

If boosting the output signal doesn't do any good, post back and we'll replace the display.

Boosting the signal had no effect, so I'd like to go ahead and replace it please.
