punching a hole for the camera module

Post by tshoval »

Hi.
I bought a raspberry pi case from adafruit (the Adafruit Pi Case- Enclosure for Raspberry Pi Model A or B
PRODUCT ID: 1326).
It's a great case, but I also got a camera module, and this case doesn't have an opening for the cable.
Do you have any suggestions for making a hole in the case for the cable?
What would be the best tool for the job, apart from getting a new case?

Thanks

A Nibbler tool is handy for making non-round holes in panels and enclosures. You start by drilling a hole large enough to insert the tool, then 'nibble' away to refine the shape. http://www.amazon.com/Klein-Tools-76011 ... B0000CBJCT

Dremel tools are also good, and probably a bit quicker. But the nibbler is easier to control and less likely to make a mess of things.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't have a nibler....
You said that the first step is to drill a hole, so I gather it's safe to drill through the acrylic case. right?
I can probably make do with drilling four-five holes next to each other and sanding between them, as long as I do it slow, so the case wouldn't snap in half.

Yes, you can drill the acrylic. Just be careful. Most general purpose drill bits are a little aggressive for plastic and can grab and end up cracking the plastic. This is more of a problem with larger diameter bits.

You can make your own "plastics bit" with a file and a few minutes.
