SD Card Binding in Pi Case (1326)

Post by robhixkg »

I recently purchase all of my hardware for the upcoming BANNED Java Embedded class. Along with the required equipment I bought a Pi Case (product number 1326) to house the RasPi and keep things a little neater on my desk. Tonight as I was getting the RasPi setup and configured I noticed I could not get the SD card into the card slot when the RasPi was in the case.

Upon further investigation, I found that with the SD card in the slot, and with the RasPi in the case, The opposite end of the RasPi board from the SD slot would not sit in the case without a small amount of force being applied to it. This of course causes the SD card to bind against the case. Although probably not enough force to break anything, this still puts undue pressure on the SD card, the rails that the SD card rides in and the RasPi board itself. Not to mention I cannot get the SD card into the SD card slot with the RasPi in the case.

Is this a common problem? What is the suggested fix? I can always file the SD card opening larger, but I want to first find out if I have defective case that needs replacing.

Thanks in advance,
Rob Hix
