Adafruit RGB Positive 16x2 LCD+Keypad Kit for Raspberry Pi

Post by JackyNiew »

Hello,

A beginner question about this product.
Once the kit is assembled and verified, and when I met the display kit on Raspberry, when I connect the power Raspberry (without SD card) of the LED display should light up or not.
Because now when I feed the Raspberry, nothing lights up. I know that no character can not be displayed, but I thought the LEDs are lit.

Thank you for your reply.

Best regards.
Jacky

Hello,
Here are 3 photos.
I had checked the welds before powering.

Do you want a picture with the display removed?

Thank you in advance.

That looks good.

The LEDs are controlled by the MCP23017 chip, so just applying power should not turn them on.

Hello and thank you for your advice.

The Adafruit RGB Negative 16x2 LCD + Keypad Kit for Raspberry Pi has ignited when appropriate scrip is executed.
I then had some problems with the library "Adafruit_CharLCDPlate.py" which was obsolete. But everything is back to normal with a newer version.

Thank you for your very quick service and congratulations for the quality of your products.

Best regards.

Hello Rick,

I have a small question.
When I do the command "sudo i2cdetect-y 1" (see attached screen capture)

I have the display at 0x20 (20)
But I also have a display on the bx30 address (UU)

What does "this bizarre thing" "UU"
Is this important?

In advance thank you.

Best regards.

"UU" means that the device is being used by the kernel, and isn't available for general use.

Hello from Paris france !
I followed yesterday night the tutorial to solder and install on the Raspberry Pi B the Adafruit RGB Negative 16x2 LCD.
To my surprise and delight, I was damn happy, the LCD screen lighted.
After running the python script
sudo python Adafruit_CharLCD.py
I pushed the buttons to get the different colors… It worked.
Now this morning, running again the python script… I get an error message :
Runtimewarning : This channel is already in use, continuing anyway. Use GPIO.setwarnings(False) to disable warnings.
self.GPIO.setup(self.pin_e,GPIO.OUT)
I don't have the faintest idea of what I can do.

Maybe is it because I didn't properly shut down the LCD screen before turning off the Raspberry Pi ? ( don't know how to proceed ). I just hope I didnt' break anything…

Thank you if you can help me. All the best.

Jacky
