I’m sorry for these beginner questions, but I have struggled to find information online about this, and the manual I found doesn’t seem to go into much depth.
I got a unit on eBay which arrived today, but unfortunately without a PSU. I have a switch-mode wall-wart with selectable voltage I set to 9v, I plugged this is and switched on, but no lights came on the unit within a second, so I switched off again.
So, I have two queries:
- Should a switch mode PSU work?
- Should any lights come on straight away?
Thank you, and sorry if these are really basic questions.

Re: First timer query
Take a look at the parts list, available here: http://ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/fab/parts.html
You will see there that a x0xb0x requires a 9VAC 300-500mA wall wart, with 2.1mm barrel adaptor.
So as long as your switchable wall wart can provide that, you should be OK. And make sure it's AC, and not DC...

Re: First timer query
Thanks for your help.
I realised I was using a slightly wrong sized barrel adapter, and got it working by changing that.
Had lots of fun last night doing live old-school acid tracks with a 707 as master, and using the excellent randmomize pattern function.
