x0x slide time in built in sequencer vs. external

Post by intellijel »

If I had a riff in midi and there were slides in it (just overlap the notes)
would it sound the same as if I had played the riff off the x0x sequencer?

The reason I ask is a friend told me that waht was unique about a 303 sequencer is that the slide time between notes (steps) is always the same no matter what the pitch difference. This is accomplished by the processor knowing what note is next and adjusting the slide time (bigger pitch difference = faster slide time,). If this is true, then the processor would not know what incoming MIDI note is next so the slide times would not vary based on the pitch intervals.

cheers,
Danjel

this is true, except its the gating. it may sound a little different when you use MIDI because the sequencer cant turn off the gate halfway thru the note when it doesnt know how long the note is.

so the internal sequencer's slide works like original's (constant time)?

the sequencer slide isnt constant time, its the analog section which controls this. the gating is going to be different because the sequencer needs to know when the 'middle' of the note is for it to gate correctly. as a result, it will not sound exactly the same, but i am not sure how different it would be.

what's the deal with the middle of the note?

also - what does the gating have to do with note slides?

you can also look in the firmware, synth.c and main.c (the do_tempo function) for the bizarre slide/gate stuff
