What's a good general purpose N-channel enhancement mode MOSFET in the 200-800 mA range? Generally something that can be switched on by logic and drive IR LEDs and the like.
The adafruit parts library has the FQN1N50C (Digikey), with an Vdss max of 500v , Idm of 380mA , but a Vgs(th) max of 4v .
The partselector somewhat oddly only has a P-channel MOSFET in this range.
Poking around at Digikey, I found the ZVN4206AV (Digikey), with an Vdss max of 60v , Idm of 600mA , and a Vgs(th) max of 3v .
Anything better out there?

How many volts are you switching, what package do you want, through hole or SMT?

This is our favorite power mosfet

It will drive a lot of LEDs nicely!

If you're an SMD masochist like me, these are my favorite for logic-level driven small loads. Data sheets linked on those pages:

Re: General-purpose N-channel enh. MOSFET?
I'm looking for something in a TO-92 or thereabouts, switching < 30v in most cases. Essentially a MOSFET equivalent to a 2N2222 or a 2N3904.
High amperage TO-220 stuff is already in the part finder (and in the Adafruit catalog ).
Those surface mount jobs are just about perfect, aside from being surface mount. I also bought a bunch of the NDT2955's spec'ed in the original Arduino 2009 when those became available again, which are nice P-channel surface mount MOSFETs when you can get them.

That would be 2N7000.pstemari wrote:Essentially a MOSFET equivalent to a 2N2222 or a 2N3904.
One of the oldest and most common FETs.

That was one of the ones I looked at. 5 ohms and 200 mA max current puts it at the low end of the range.
OTOH, Digikey looks to have well over 100,000 available, vs 16,600 for the ZVN4206, counting both the diode protected and non-diode protected variants. It does look like there's a whole series of ZVN FETs, similar to the 1N400x diodes. 06's for 60v, 10's for 100v, etc, with the first two digits increasing with current capacity. Guess I'll just get some and see how they work out.
