Questions about EL inverters & LiPos

Post by philba »

First, on the Adafruit inverters. I'd like to use LiPos with an EL Inverter. However, they all seem to be designed for alkaline batteries (multiples of 1.5V). Has anyone run one off of a LiPo? I've seen people blow up 3V inverters by feeding them 5V so it's a real concern. I'd prefer to run a single cell lipo (3.7V nominal - actually 4 to 3.3 range). Maybe I'll just try a sacrificial lamb...

I'd actually prefer to design my own inverter so I could have an integral sequencer, charger and inverter in one small package. However, I've never found any designs for inverters. Pointers to a design would be greatly appreciated. I know the basic idea - 2K-ish oscillator feeding a transformer. But not sure I want to experiment. Eventually, I'd want to be able to control the frequency to be able to 'bend' the color of the wire.
