laser cut plywood project box question.

Post by mtbf0 »

so would it be a bad idea to laser cut wooden cases for electronic projects on account of the carbon residue? i was thinking of cutting a plywood case for a beaglebone but it would be a drag if things started shorting out. guess i could sand and seal the edges, but i'm really lazy.

I wouldn't expect any problems with it. On the parts I've had done, there is surface scorching, but little if any that will rub off. If you are concerned, a light spray of shellac will seal it and dry in a few minutes.

Nylon standoffs/washers might help too, so nothing on the board contacts any char.
