Adjustable timed outlet

Post by DonP »

Hello, I'm a first timer posting here.

Trying to make an adjustable timed outlet for a machine I built.
I'm a machinist by trade, but also moderate at electronics.

What I'm trying to make is a timer circuit, adjustable from 1 minute to about 10 minutes.
It needs to control a 120V outlet. Pretty simple!?
I've tried all the circuits I could find on the web, but none fit the bill.

The hardest part is making it operator simple.

Thanks for any help,
Don

Can you give us a little more detail. What kind of operator interface do you need? A simple knob to adjust from 1-10 min? Do you need any feedbacK? A countdown display?

A simple knob would work fine.
Better would be a series of push buttons for preset times.
A readout would be great, so the operator can see how much time is remaining. (but not absolutely necessary)

Thanks,
Don

An Arduino UNO plus an RGB Display Shield and a PowerSwitchTail would do it. That would give you a display plus 5 buttons.

If you need to put this in some sort of enclosure, you can leave off the micro-switches and run wires to panel-mount switches instead.
