Sourcing: Cut Lengths of Multiconductor Cable

Post by derzzle »

Would anyone know who online or in Seattle :) sells small quantities of cut multiconductor cable? For production and big lab, it's easy... but I really would prefer NOT to spend $1200+ on a 500ft spool of 16-conductor shielded when I need about a meter or two to finish a project prototype!

Thanks!

Check local suppliers of networking cable & gear. My local electronics store sells leftover partial boxes of network cable for pennies on the dollar. Cat-5 & 6 cables are 8 conductors and come in shielded & unshielded varieties.

Check out Vetco in Redmond off of Northup Way. They have lots of wire even beyond what's on the web site.

I've used this stuff a few times to make custom cables: http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-st ... AIN/1.html

10 conductors + drain wire. 58 cents/foot at short lengths. Can't beat that!!

Thanks for all the hints! :) Yeah, I am a regular at VetCo and I think the idea of using an older Centronics or IEEE488 will work beautifully: I need between 25 and 40 conductors, shielded, low volt [digital 3.3V]. Wonder what kind of noise BANNED I'll get bet 100 and 200Mhz? LOL Maybe I should split them into tens

Saw 3M had 'had ideal' assembly for me: basically a round jacketed ribbon cable with upwards of 64 conductors (3M 3759). Perhaps they could send a sample of juuuuust the right length!
