Tilt Ball Switch current

Post by neonglass »

Do you know how much current can be handled by the tilt ball switch?

Hi NeonGlass,

This tilt-ball tutorial: http://www.ladyada.net/learn/sensors/tilt.html indicates 5-mA max.

Your 'handle' brings to mind many pleasant memories.

I guess I'll have to add some MOSFETs to the circuit then.

After you install a Chinese font pack (for reasons passing understanding...) you'll find it's rated for <6mA 24VDC. Since that less-than sign scares me we'll call it 5mA @ 24V, which is 120mW. Re-rate or de-rate your amps based on the voltage where appropriate.

Note I'm not advising you to convert to watts for everything out there. But a little ball sensor that's basically just a dumb switch that's either on or off? You're probably OK in this case.

Yes, they can certainly drive FET gates.
Are these for your SpokePOV project? How do you plan to use them?
