How to charge ipad at 2 amps

Postby Scott216 » Sun Nov 11, 2012 1:54 pm

I want to build an ipad charging station where I can charge ipads and other devices. I read the minty boost tutorial which talked about the voltage needed on the data lines. I built this circuit from thecustomgeek.com:

Which is very similar to one of the circuits in the mintyboost tutorial:
Image.

But the ipad only charges at 1 amp. For a power supply I'm using my benchtop power supply which I can adjust the voltage and can put out many amps. I set it at 5v, but tweaked it up and down a bit to see if that helped, it didn't. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the ipad to charge at 2 amps?

Make sure your voltages are correct.

My voltages on the data lines look good. According to link above, you can only get 1 amp from any charging circuit because the author thinks there is some sort of communication going on between the 10 watt power adapter and the ipad. I don't know if that's true, I haven't heard anyone else say that, but maybe. I searched for a teardown on the 10 watt power adapter, but couldn't find one.
