GPRS specifications

Postby stanigator » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:04 am

I'm thinking of buying a GPRS shield for an Arduino. Since Adafruit doesn't have any, I have been looking at this one.

However, I'm having trouble picking out these specs:

GPRS multi-slot class 10/8
GPRS mobile station class B
Compliant to GSM phase 2/2+
Class 4 (2 W @850/ 900 MHz)
Class 1 (1 W @ 1800/1900MHz)
Control via AT commands (GSM 07.07 ,07.05 and SIMCOM enhanced AT Commands)

Can you explain their significance to why they are important when it comes to picking a GPRS equipment? Thanks in advance.

Hi Stanigator,

If you haven't figured out what some of this stuff means see below:

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Pa ... slot_Class
2. http://www.tutorialspoint.com/gprs/gprs_ms_classes.htm
3. -- couldn't find any info --
4 & 5. These are the major frequencies used by wireless carriers in the U.S. Carriers abroad may be different.
5. AT Command Set is a protocol that's used to "talk" with the GPRS module. The Datasheet for the modem should have more info.
