Max LOAD voltage from 390 charger with 6V panel?

Post by mikecaptnkidd »

When the 390 charger is drawing from the batteries, the LOAD voltage is determined by the battery. When the solar panel is charging the batteries, the LOAD voltage seems to track with the charging voltage.

My question is, when the battery is fully charged and the solar panel is active, what is the highest voltage that will be provided on the LOAD port? I need to determine if I can use a step-up converter to 5V that assumes the input will be <=5, or will I need to use one that can handle voltage limiting as well?

My charging system looks like this one: http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=36130

When the battery is fully charged, the load voltage will be the same as the input voltage. If this is coming from a 6v solar panel, this could be 6v or more with no load.
