cell phone speaker

Post by pentiger »

Hello. I disasembled a broken Samsung Galaxy s4 for parts.
I mainly wanted to use the loud speaker with a project, but when I connect it to a headphone output on my tablet the sound is very weak.
Do I need a special amplifier for it?
Please help.
Thanks.

Headphone outputs don't have much power because they don't need much to drive a tiny speaker that sits in your ear. Phone speakers don't need much either when you hold them to your ear. But when used in 'speaker phone' mode, they require more amplification. To get more volume, you could use one of our class-D amplifier breakouts: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1552

Thank you.
I will be ordering one plus other things :)
On a side note Galaxy has a loud speaker when you listen to youtube for example and it's the one on the bottom of the phone the one on top is much smaller and not that loud.

Thanks again, I wasn't sure why it's so quiet comparing to when it was inside the phone.
