Good Morning/Afternoon depending where in the world you are!
I am looking at the
USB DIY Connector Shell - Type Micro-B Plug
PRODUCT ID: 1390
https://www.adafruit.com/products/1390
Which is on the adafruit shop,
And am a bit stumped by the wiring diagram.
From what i can see,
Pin Name Cable color Description
1 VCC Red +5 VDC
2 D- White Data -
3 D+ Green Data +
4 ID n/a USB OTG ID
5 GND Black Ground
all good, for the 5 pins.
I only need 5V and GND so all good with those two, but what is connected to the very shell of the pin? the metal surround that first makes contact with the female? If you look at the picture that has the $0.25 coin, you can see the side on view on both sides of the main points to make connection.
Micro USB Plug wiring - what connects to the shell?

Re: Micro USB Plug wiring - what connects to the shell?
USB communication cable is shielded. The shell is typically connected to the shield and the shield is grounded at the host end of the cable. For simple power transmission, the shield is not essential.

The pin numbers from the front go right to left. The corresponding solder tabs on the back are numbered from left to right:

What exactly don't you understand about the diagram? Looking from the cable end of the plug, with the wide side up, the leftmost pin is pin 1.

Re: Micro USB Plug wiring - what connects to the shell?
Can anyone tell me the actual part number/manufacturer of this part or point me to a PDF? I am working on a design incorporating this part, and while I can (and will) measure the dimensions myself, it'd be helpful to see what the manufacturer says they are.
Thanks
