The power source is just wired from one segment to the next. For the ground each segment is spliced off a main ground line along the edge.

I don't know. I'm coming up empty. Are you sure your external PS is working?

Whew, I was worried I was going to get a "Go learn to solder n00b".

I just found a 3.5A at work. I'm going to bring it home and test.

Well, what do you know? It was bad power supply. Was working when I started. Go figure.

For anyone reading I did not buy this power supply from Adafruit. I had it laying around.

All seems well on the 3.5A supply though.

I have all the grounds and power leads going to respective wire screw caps with a jumper wire to next segment. On one of the ends of the ground line I have alligator clips for Arduino ground, then power supply ground.
Could we see a picture of that? It does not sound very secure.
