cut and re-wire LED strips
I ordered 5 x 1m LED strips from Adafruit and they came in one long strip (on a reel). I'm cutting them into 8 rows at 2 feet each as per my project requirements, but I just realized I'm not sure how to wire them together. Do I simply solder a hookup wire to GND, data and 5v+ on each end or is there something else I must do?

Which type of our LED strip did you purchase? Post a link to the product description page.

You can connect GND and +5v to each row. Ideally, you would run power and ground direct from the power supply to each row.
You should also run a ground wire directly from the Arduino to the GND connection on the first row in your array.
The data pin from the Arduino should be connected to the DI pad on the first row. The DO pad on each row should be connected to the DI pad of the next row.
Please read through this guide before you start wiring: http://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neop ... -practices

Which capacitor is recommended?

Will this resistor work?

The one capacitor has no voltage rating, so I can't say if it will work. The darker blue one is rated for 35WVDC which is plenty.
Those resistors should be fine too.

The lighter blue capacitor is also 35 v (not visible on packaging). It has the same form factor of the capacitor in the best practices... go with that one?
