need help about dafruit 16-channel 12-bit PWM / servo driver

Post by anass »

hello there,
I am Anass from Morocco, I use the Adafruit 16-channel 12-bit PWM / servo driver with Raspberry Pi for my project, and I find a problem when I connect my servo motors, they work very well but the motors get hot despite I use an external supply of 5V and 2A.
thanks for help me

What motors are you using? The only heat I can think of would be the %v power heating if the load is high and you are moving the servo a lot.

The servo driver is only supplying the PWM control signal. Any heat comes from the motors which are powered by your external supply. What kind of load are you moving with the servos?

In that configuration, the servos at the first and second joint are heavily loaded even in the static case and will get warm just maintaining position.,

You can use higher torque servos (e.g. HS645-MG). Increasing the voltage to 6v may help a little also.

But you have to expect any servo in that application to get warm. It requires a certain amount of energy to maintain that arm position and, since motors are not 100% efficient, some of that energy must be dissipated as heat.

DC only. 5v or 6v for most servos. For high torque servos, you should have about 1A per servo.
