Two questions: Is the receiver available as just a part, or do I have to buy the educational kit for $65?
Second, is this something that I could connect to a raspberry pi on one of the gpio pins?
My desire is to make a small receiver that gathers the heart rate data and store it with a timestamp, and make it available via a (preferably wireless) web interface.

Re: Polar Heart Rate Receiver
We don't sell the receiver separately, but you might want to look at the Pulse Sensor Amped: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1093
That's a wired sensor you could connect to a RasPi, then timestamp and transmit the data.
