"safe" to re-solder +wire of LiPo battery to JST-PH

Post by frippe75 »

Hello,

The possitive wire fell of yesterday of my 1200mah LiPo (https://www.adafruit.com/product/258).

I kinda wondering if it safe to re-solder it back again....To where it attaches to the battery... Looks like a small pcb under a transparent plastic tape...

Thx!
Fredrik

If you are reasonably good with a soldering iron you should be able to accomplish this. But LiPo cells can be dangerous if overheated. Use extreme care, wear safety glasses and work in an area free of flammable things.

Have everything cleaned and the wire tinned and ready to go. If you can't complete the joint in a few seconds, let it cool down before trying again. You don't want to overheat the battery.

Adding some extra tape around the joint will provide some strain-relief and help prevent it from breaking again.

Thank you I had the same issue with two of my LiPo 150mAH 3.7 was able to successfully solder one, but the other one didn't make it. I was wondering what type of tape your recommend?

Kapton tape is ideal. But it's not the kind of stuff most people have lying around. Masking tape, or even duct tape will work. The basic idea is to stiffen up the wire near the solder joint to minimize the flexing in that area.

If you don't have access to Kapton I would recommend vinyl electrical tape that you can get at electrical supply stores or home depot style stores.
