Bike stereo

Post by mpogue50 »

I ordered 20 watt speaker and Stereo 20W Class D Audio Amplifier for putting together the bike stereo. I had it all working, after about 5 days the speaker quit. Tested the system and the amplifier works with another speaker. Is it possible that the speaker had died, didn't think much could go wrong with a speaker. The wires and cone are connected no tears.

Any suggestions

thanks
maynard

Possible, just not probable. check the connections on the back to see if something has come unsoldered and if all looks good email [email protected] with a link to this thread for a replacement

Yes, it is possible, but unlikely for speakers to die out naturally in such a short time.

The most common causes that I've seen are (which do not include damage to the cone (tears)):
  • Voice coil burning up (exceeded power)
  • Voice coil becoming jammed (dirt/dust)
  • Magnet unfastening and pinching/damaging the voice coil (weak/poor weld/glued points)
  • Weak solder joints (wiggle stuff, anything loose?)
If you made these purchases from Adafruit, contact their support team. They normally cover these without a problem or questions asked. :)
