USBTinyISP - Install problem

Postby joemcder » Tue Nov 13, 2012 1:33 pm

I have a USBTinyISP. I've tried to install on my laptop (64bit) with no success.
I downloaded and unzipped the driver file "usbtinyisp_libusb-win32_1.2.1.0.zip" but am puzzled.

The file "libusb-win32-bin-README.txt" is rather cryptic with no clear instructions.
For example the following line:
"x86\libusb0_x86.dll: x86 32-bit library. Must be renamed to libusb0.dll"
Renamed????? Why? Where?

There are two programs installer_x64.exe installer_x86.exe. I tried them both including run as administrator.
A DOS box very briefly flashes on the screen but appears to do nothing useful.

Plugging in the USBTinyISP leads to the usual installing driver message followed by failure.
I deleted the USBTinyISP in Device Manager and tried every combination I could think up.

I would appreciate some help from someone who has done this successfully.

Thank You,
Joe

There is a file in the zip folder called "x86\libusb0_x86.dll". It must be renamed to "libusb0.dll".

I did rename the file, then what?

There are 2 installers, installer_x64.exe and installer_x86.exe. Which one on Windows 7 64 bits ?
I tried them both and neither worked.

When I plug in the usbtiny I get the usual "installing driver" message followed by the failure message 'file not found'.
If this driver actually works can you give me CLEAR instructions on how to proceed?

we've installed on a 64 bit win 7 computer dozens of times so we know it works - uncompress it, then use the device manager, point to the folder thats uncompressed. should just work!

My problem was caused by my foolishly reading the 'libusb-win32-bin-README.txt' thinking it would contain useful information.
The readme tells us to rename a file. Of course if you ignore this advice the driver installs just fine.
