New to Spokepov

Post by Raymond711 »

Hi all , I'm new to SpokePov

Just wanted to know when would I require more than one kit on a wheel?

If I wanted the lights to show both sides of my wheel how would I do this?

Just wanted to make sure before I buy, as I want to buy correctly first time.

I see the megadeal kit includes 3 kits of the same color , but then it says it's enough for one wheel?? Thus I'm bit confused ;-(

Thanks a mil

Raymond

Each SpokePOV board has LEDs on both sides, so it shows on both sides of the bike.

The reason for using more than one per wheel has to do with how fast you want to ride. At slower speeds, the image from a single SpokePOV won't 'fuse' very well. With one, you want to be doing at least 15mph. Two for 10mph. Three for 7mph.

The board is quite heavy - I'm not sure I'd want to be doing 15+mph with a single, unbalanced SpokePOV. With 2 or 3 units, you can balance them out.

1 per wheel.

In spite of the silkscreened URLs and hijacked description, that is not an Adafruit USBTinyISP programmer. We will not be able to support you if you have problems programming the SpokePOV with it.

The USB to parallel port dongle schematic is here: http://www.ladyada.net/media/spokepov/spokepov.png

So I think one could solder this oneself, or surely even the ripoffs get this right. Or is the dongle situation more complicated?

I'd really like to buy the triple set, but it sounds like it might not arrive before the 14th and I'm working within a deadline. :-/

ps - I wasn't referring to a real ripoff. I mean, if they're closed source, then you don't know !!

Out of intellectual curiosity, one might see if this matches the schematic:

Worst case, you end up rewiring it?
