Ice tube. Am/pm and alarm indicator not working

Postby Mjb » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:26 pm

Just finished putting my ice. Lock together. It works great except that the Am/pm and alarm indicators won't light up. All e other digits and dots work as expected. I rechecked all my solder joints and still no go. Any suggestions

If you post photos of the back of the tube board and the main board we can take a look.

I don't see any problems in the soldering. One thing to try is to locate the pin for VFD1 and (carefully!) short it to one of the adjacent digit pins (e.g. VFD2) and see if it lights up then.

Tried what you suggested still did not light up, does that mean the tube is bad?

With a closer look at the soldering on the VFD controller chip, it appears that the VFD controller chip pin for VFD1 may not have flowed well onto the solder pad. A few nearby pins look suspicious as well. Re-touch those joints and see if things improve.

Touched up the solder points and still no go. All the digits work but the am/pm and alarm indicators won't light up.
