Problems with Xbee - Adapter Kit

Post by larabertini »

Hello,
I bought the Tweet-a-watt kit from adafruit.
I was trying to change the settings of one Xbee S1 (transmitter), and the green LED on the "Adafruit Xbee Adapter Kit" board simply stopped working.
I took off the xbee from the board, disconnected and connected the board on the computer, tried to update the firmware, but nothing worked.
I don't know what is happening, and I am starting to wonder if my Xbee is burned... =(
I did a short circuit test with no power on the adapter, and the 1 and 2 pins of the ship SN74AHC125N are short circuited. I couldn't notice anything else...

Can anybody help me?

Thanks!

Have you tried swapping the xbees in the adapters to see if one or the other is bad?

Swap xbees as suggested by franklin to see if the problem is with the XBee or the adapter. If it still seems like an adapter problem - post photos of the front and back of the adapter board.

I suspect that the problem is with the adapter itself.
I thought that if I connected just the adapter to the computer, at least the power led (green) was supposed to blink... And it is not blinking.
I tried both Xbee S1 that come with the Tweet-a-Watt kit and neither worked...

Follows the link to the dropbox folder with the images:

p.s. 1) The virtual COM port is successfully recognized by the computer with both Xbees...
2) If you have any problems visualizing the images please let me know

Thank you very much for the help!

Did you try them both in the other adapter?

It's hard to see in the solder-side photos, but it looks like some of the solder joints on the chip have not flowed well onto the solder pad. Re-flow those joints with a clean hot iron.
